Texturing Improvements (Exterior) idea … Light Bulbs

I saw the topic of … Texturing Improvements (Exterior) … for the upcoming release(s) and wanted to provide some feedback on that.

MSFS does push the 3D modeling and rendering limits closer to … "maximum realism".

The switch to 8K textures for the Osprey was a great improvement for details like the "No step" labels etc. But whenever I look at the "Showcase cam - External 1" and look at the nacelle …

… there are two things that (at a 4K screen) stand out to me as "room for improvement":

    • The "Jet Intake" triangle … has visible pixelation
    • The green light … looks … hmm … "cartoonish"? (for lack of a better word)

The light has very sharp color edges to the nacelle, the color is very "flat" and the light lacks any level of detail.

I was not able to find really good images of the real Osprey lights … but at least they seem to consist of two parts and they have some translucency.

Many other MSFS aircraft seem to focus a lot on the light (bulb) modeling … perhaps because those objects do attract viewer attention. Here is one example from the H145 … I can see the cover glass, the PCBs and the LEDs:

I do not know how complicated such changes are … but IMHO they greatly add to realism.

    1. The switch to 8K on the Blank livery was very experimental - just wanted to see if any performance issues were reported. So far, no reports, so 8K External textures would be the way to go with future updates.

      1. Regarding the Jet Intake, I noticed that too. The decal texture is in fact of a lower resolution. When the textures were upscaled to 8K, the decal remained the same resolution. This will be improved with the upcoming update.

      2. I agree with this as well. In general, the exterior model is getting multiple improvements (texturing, details, etc.) These will be rolled out progressively in the next one or two updates.
