Osprey v1.4 … new flight model and unrealistic rudder reaction
By @nenenui
I have to admit that I never tried this prior to v1.4 … but right now the reaction to rudder input seems
- A) very unrealistic
- B) inconsistent
My test is the following:
- level flight with around 190 ktas
- nacelles at 0 degree
- 100% rudder left … and hold it as long as possible
- … watch the reaction
Then I rerun the test but with nacelles at 1 degree.
With 1 degrees the rudder reaction feels more like a helicopter spin … but that seems very (A) unrealistic to me given the very "flat" angle of the proprotors.
(B) is related to the extreme difference in the reaction for a tiny angle difference.

Interesting rudder has not been changed at all in recent updates.
That being said, we are overhauling the 0 Nacelle FM to a fully-FBW Flight model, so shortly the handling characteristics in APLN Mode will change significantly. This should also improve the CONV-APLN transition.
